Contest Description

The 2024 edition of the CEN Photo Contest aims to show the North at its most beautiful in all seasons. This year's photo contest will be used to create an official CEN 2025 calendar! It will be unveiled and distributed at the 45th CEN Annual Conference, to be held on February 13 and 14, 2025.

The Centre d'études nordiques invites its members and partners to submit their best photos in the following categories

• Winter Category
• Spring category
• Summer category
• Autumn category

The "Coup de Cœur" photo will be selected by a jury from the 20 best photos submitted in each category.

The winning "Coup de Coeur" photo will appear on the cover of the official CEN calendar, which will be launched at the 45th CEN Symposium. The top three photos per category (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) will represent each of the 12 months of the official CEN calendar.

In addition, one prize of $100 per category will be awarded at the CEN Annual Conference.

Contest Rules

• All CEN members (full members, associates, trainees, research staff, masters and doctoral students, administrative staff, etc.) and anyone associated with CEN activities are eligible to participate;
• Each participant may submit a maximum of 10 photos;
• Only good-quality, high-resolution photos are accepted;
• Photos must have been taken by you less than 3 years ago and must never have been submitted to the CEN photo contest;
  • Photos submitted to the competition must be accompanied by a descriptive text of less than 150 characters;
  • You must submit your photos by October 21, 2024;
  • You must agree that CEN and its members may freely use your photos for normal CEN activities (e.g. website, social media, reports, presentations); use of your photo will be accompanied by photo credit wherever possible;
  • Photos must be submitted by e-mail to coordination@cen.ulaval.ca. Files must be named: your full name_a unique identifier of 3 descriptive words max._year photo was taken_place photo was taken_category.

Please note that if sending your photos by e-mail is too large (max. 20 MB), WeTransfer application can be used.

In addition, please include the appropriate consent forms with your email submission (see Use of Personal Information and Photographs section below).

Use of Personal Information and Photographs

By entering the contest and submitting one or more photographs, the entrant expressly consents to the free use of his/her photograph(s) by CEN and its members for promotional purposes, including communications on CEN's social networks, CEN's website and the production of reports, posters, etc.

The entrant also agrees that his/her identity may be revealed during the announcement of the results on CEN's social networks and at CEN's annual conference, as well as in CEN's official calendar and whenever his/her photograph is used in promotional material..

Wherever possible, photos will always be accompanied by appropriate credit to the author of the images.

Participants are requested to join the consent form for the use of their photos.

Please note that a consent form for the distribution of images featuring faces must also be provided if people are recognizable and identifiable in your photographs (one form per person).

Your participation in the competition therefore constitutes acceptance of these conditions.

The CEN would like to thank all those who take part in the competition!

Jury and public vote

The winning photos in each category, as well as the 20 photos competing for the "Coup de Coeur" award, will be selected by a jury. The jury will be composed of 5 CEN members.

• The "Coup de Coeur" winning photo will be chosen by the public from among the 20 photos selected by the jury in all categories. The public vote will take place electronically and will be announced on the CEN website and social networks. A $100 prize will be awarded.
• Only one $100 prize will be awarded per category. The top three photos in each category will be published in the official CEN calendar.
