The podcast: a borderless format to democratise access to your scientific research

Marie-Christine Lafrenière (Ph.D.), co-founder of the podcast Les Lucioles and Leia Lafrance, Communications Manager

Workshop description:

Whether you're on public transport, out for a walk or cooking, you can choose podcasting as an active learning method. This broadcast medium is particularly suited to the modern lifestyles of its audiences and is now conquering the research community. In this workshop we will explore the different stages from production to distribution of a podcast and develop collective ideas. Why choose a podcast? Who should be involved? What tools should we use? Give us your voice and your ideas!

Biographical description:

The Les Lucioles podcast sheds light on the world of biology and the environment through popularised interviews with researchers. Hosted by Marie-Christine Lafrenière and Stéphanie Shousha, two PhDs in freshwater biology, the podcast combines humour, expertise and curiosity to make science engaging. Together with their team, they highlight cutting-edge research in French-speaking countries, taking listeners into the heart of the Laurentian forest, a lake or a genetics laboratory. After two successful seasons, their third promises to be even more varied and full of discoveries.

Jean and Roldi - Style fonts

Madeleine-Zoé Corbeil-Robitaille (PhD student, UL) and Gabriel Bergeron (PhD student, UL)

Workshop description :

Ugly poster? Incomprehensible figure ? A Pollock-style diagram (without the social status)? In this fun workshop on scientific visualisation, we'll teach you a few tips and tricks so that you don't get the next style ticket! Far from being a professional training course, this workshop is intended as a gentle introduction to the concepts of design and user experience. After a short lecture, you'll be invited to work in teams to patch up, rework and revitalise a selection of scientific posters and graphics, each more convoluted than the last.

Biographical description:

Madeleine-Zoé Corbeil-Robitaille and Gabriel Bergeron are humble biology PhD students, brought together by their quest for style in science and communication. Madeleine-Zoé is quick with a paintbrush and a pencil, and has mastered (and doesn't hesitate to use) the essential tools of a scientist, including page-layout software. Gabriel, a programming monk, seeks balance in the myriad of digital tools available to scientists. Together, this unlikely duo have a wealth of experience in the sciences of beauty.
